What you notice when fleas or ticks move in

You might see fleas hopping on floors or find ticks attached to pets. These details point to a problem, but only an inspection confirms what pest is active in the house.

  • Pets scratching and biting

Pets scratching or biting their skin frequently can signal that adult fleas are active on your animals.

  • Reddish dust in pet bedding

Finding flea dirt, which looks like a fine reddish-black dust, in pet bedding indicates an active flea presence.

  • Small dark jumping insects

Seeing small, dark, wingless insects jumping across carpet, rugs or hardwood floors is a clear sign of fleas.

  • Ticks found on your dog

Finding a brown dog tick on your dog means checking nearby cracks and crevices where ticks rest inside your home.

  • Ticks near pet resting spots

Noticing ticks crawling on walls, baseboards or furniture near where your dog rests points to a tick issue.

  • Crawling pests along walls

Finding brown dog ticks inside cracks and crevices near pet areas indicates they may be breeding indoors.

Why flea and tick activity matters

Whiptail technician going over preparation instructions with a homeowner

Most of a flea infestation consists of eggs, larvae and pupae in carpet, rugs, pet bedding and furniture, rather than adult fleas on your pet. This is why our service includes an interior treatment of floors and furniture alongside a yard treatment, while your veterinarian treats your pets the same week. The brown dog tick can complete its entire life cycle indoors, hiding in cracks near pet resting areas.

We return for a follow-up visit about two weeks later to address remaining activity. Flea and tick services are not covered by the quarterly plan. You receive written preparation instructions before treatment day.

Identifying fleas and ticks on your property

Our technician inspects the inside and outside of your property. We identify the pest and explain what we find before we recommend any treatment for the house.

  • Checking the floors

We look at the interior floors to find where the activity is happening inside.

  • Inspecting furniture

The technician inspects the furniture in your home to locate where the pests hide.

  • Yard inspection

We evaluate the yard and landscape to identify conditions supporting the pest outside.

  • Explaining our findings

We explain what we found during the inspection and recommend an approach for your property.

Treating your home for fleas and ticks

We treat the interior floors and furniture and apply a yard treatment. You follow a written preparation checklist and have a veterinarian treat your pets.

  • Interior floors

The technician applies treatment to the interior floors of your home based on what we find during the initial inspection.

  • Furniture treatment

We treat the interior furniture where activity is found. Products are applied strictly according to their labels by our licensed technicians.

  • Yard application

Our yard treatment addresses exterior outdoor areas where fleas and ticks harbor around your home as part of the overall service.

  • Veterinary care for pets

Your pets must be treated by a veterinarian the same week we treat the property. You also follow the written preparation checklist.

Treating your home and pets together

Addressing fleas and ticks requires treating interior floors, furniture and the yard during the same week your veterinarian treats your pets. Treating the property while the animals are treated addresses pests in the home and yard at the same time.

Frequent vacuuming of carpets, rugs and furniture between visits helps by removing flea eggs. A follow-up visit occurs about two weeks later to address remaining activity.

Preparing for your scheduled visit

You receive written preparation and reentry instructions before your treatment day. We explain the steps so you know what to expect.

  1. Preparation checklist

Customers follow a written preparation checklist before the technician arrives. Your pets must be treated by a veterinarian the same week.

  2. Access for the technician

The technician needs access to the interior floors, furniture and the yard to perform the inspection and complete the required treatment.

  3. Children and pets

You keep children and pets out of the treated areas by following the written reentry instructions provided before the treatment day.

  4. What to expect after

Not every problem is solved in one visit. The technician explains the results you should expect after treating the floors and furniture.

  5. The follow-up visit

We return for a follow-up visit about two weeks later. This visit is included in the one-time service to address the activity.

Preventing flea and tick issues

These routine habits help reduce flea and tick activity around your property, though prevention alone does not end an active infestation.

  • Vacuum floors, rugs and furniture regularly where pets rest.
  • Wash pet bedding frequently in hot water.
  • Keep up with flea and tick treatments recommended by your vet.
  • Check your dog regularly for ticks after outdoor time.
  • Check sleeping mats and favorite resting spots where your dog or cat lies down.
  • Inspect pet resting areas and nearby cracks for tick activity.

Flea and tick service questions

How do you treat the property?

The treatment approach varies by pest and property. For this service, we treat the interior floors and furniture along with a yard treatment. The technician inspects the home first to identify the pest and recommend the right method.

What about children and pets?

You receive written preparation and reentry instructions before your treatment day. You are responsible for keeping children and pets out of the treated areas according to those instructions. Your pets must also be treated by a veterinarian the same week.

How do I prepare the house?

Before your technician arrives, you follow a written preparation checklist. This includes vacuuming all floors, washing pet bedding and scheduling your pet’s treatment with a veterinarian during the same week.

How much does the service cost?

We evaluate the property and provide a price based on what we find. You see and approve the price before any treatment begins. We offer a ten percent discount on one-time services for seniors and military personnel.

When should I expect results?

Results vary by pest and the property conditions. Not every problem is solved in one visit. The technician explains what to expect after treating the home, and the service includes a follow-up visit about two weeks later.

Does prevention stop the problem?

Regular vacuuming, washing pet bedding and maintaining veterinarian treatments help prevent activity. However, prevention alone does not end an active problem. Our technician inspects the property to identify hiding spots and applies focused interior and exterior treatments.
