Recognizing bed bugs in your home

Skin bites alone cannot confirm bed bugs in a home. A technician performs an inspection to confirm activity, as early infestations can be difficult to locate.

  • Rust-colored spots

You may notice small rust-colored spots on mattress seams or bed sheets.

  • Shed insect skins

Growing bed bugs cast off skins, leaving small translucent shells near sleeping areas.

  • Tiny pale eggs

Small whitish eggs and eggshells can gather in mattress folds or furniture joints.

  • Bites in a line

Skin welts or itchy bites often show up in small lines or clusters on exposed skin.

  • Visible adult insects

Adult bed bugs are flat, oval and brown, swelling to reddish brown after feeding.

  • Baseboard activity

Insects, shed skins, or small rust-colored spots can appear along mattress seams, furniture, and baseboards.

How we inspect for bed bugs

  1. Checking sleeping areas

Our technician examines mattresses, box springs, headboards and bed frames to find live insects, eggs or shed skins.

  2. Examining furniture joints

We inspect upholstered chairs, sofas, nightstands and dresser drawers near the beds for signs of infestation.

  3. Looking at baseboards

The technician checks baseboards near beds and surrounding furniture where bed bugs leave signs of activity.

  4. Explaining what we find

We show you where activity was found and provide a price quote before starting any treatment application.

Our bed bug treatment approach

We use conventional treatments on beds, furniture and baseboards. A follow-up visit is conducted about two weeks later, with more visits if activity remains. We do not offer heat treatment.

  • Targeted conventional application

Products are applied according to label instructions along baseboards, bed frames and furniture crevices where insects hide.

  • Follow-up visit included

A technician returns about two weeks after the first treatment to reinspect and apply additional product if activity continues.

  • Written preparation instructions

You receive a clear checklist covering laundry, vacuuming and decluttering to prepare every room before your scheduled appointment.

Preparing your home for treatment

Proper preparation is essential to effective bed bug treatment. Please complete every task on the written checklist before your technician arrives at your home.

  • Wash all bed linens, sheets and pillowcases in hot water and dry on high heat.
  • Place cleaned bedding and clothing into sealed plastic bags until after service.
  • Clear all stored items from under beds and from the bottoms of closets.
  • Empty dresser drawers and nightstands in rooms scheduled for treatment.
  • Vacuum floors, carpets, rugs, baseboards and upholstered furniture thoroughly.
  • Empty the vacuum canister or bag into an outside trash bin immediately.
  • Move furniture away from walls to give the technician access to baseboards.
  • Do not move unwashed items or furniture into untreated rooms of the house.

What to expect on treatment day

On treatment day, our technician applies conventional products to designated beds, furniture and baseboards based on product label instructions. Occupants, including children and pets, must remain out of the home according to the written reentry instructions provided before the visit.

Some bed bug activity may continue between visits until the follow-up inspection about two weeks later. Do not transfer furniture or unwashed belongings to untreated areas of your home during this process.

Follow-up inspections and visits

A follow-up visit scheduled about two weeks after the initial application is part of our standard bed bug service. Additional visits are performed if active insects remain, as results vary by property and infestation level. Please tell us right away if you travel or bring used furniture into the home.

How many treatment visits will I need?

Service includes an initial visit and a follow-up about two weeks later. Additional visits may be needed depending on the infestation level.
