Packrat service versus indoor rodents

Packrats are also known as woodrats. Whiptail handles packrats by trapping them on the property exterior and sealing structural gaps where they enter exterior spaces around your home. Our technicians inspect the yard, identify entry points, set traps, and return for necessary follow-up checks.

Rats and mice living inside indoor living spaces are addressed through our separate indoor rodent service. Describing what you see helps us direct you to the correct service page and treatment plan.

How packrat work goes

  1. Property inspection

A technician checks the yard, exterior foundation, and structural gaps to locate active woodrat activity.

  2. Exclusion and trapping

We install steel mesh or sheet metal over structural gaps and set targeted exterior traps.

  3. Follow-up trap checks

Technicians perform scheduled follow-up checks to evaluate trap catches and adjust exterior placements.

  4. Final site review

The technician inspects sealed exterior gaps and removes trapping equipment once activity ceases.

What is not included

We do not perform cleanup or sanitizing, dead-animal removal from inside wall voids, or insulation replacement. For indoor house mice or roof rat services, view our rodent page.

Packrat service questions

How does packrat trapping work?

We place targeted traps around active exterior zones and seal structural gaps with steel mesh or sheet metal. Technicians perform scheduled follow-up checks to clear traps until the job is complete.

Are follow-up checks included?

Yes. One-time services include the necessary follow-up checks. Your technician informs you how many checks to expect during the initial inspection based on exterior activity.

What about children and pets?

Before treatment, you receive written preparation and reentry instructions. Customers keep children and pets away from active trapping areas according to those written directions.

How is packrat service priced?

Pricing depends on property size, the extent of structural entry point sealing required, and necessary follow-up visits. You see and approve the full price after the technician completes the site inspection and before any treatment or exclusion work begins.

Request a packrat inspection

If you suspect woodrats around your property exterior, contact Whiptail to request an inspection. Our technicians identify entry points and provide a price quote before starting trapping or exclusion.
