Summer Backyard Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes breed in standing water. Our technicians treat yard areas monthly from April through October to lower their numbers.

Finding evidence of mosquito activity

Mosquito bites indicate activity outdoors. When mosquitoes appear in your yard, our inspection identifies standing water and shaded resting areas.

  • Seeing them in the shade

You observe mosquitoes hovering around shaded shrubs and dense landscape foliage in your yard.

  • Bites during the evening

You experience itchy mosquito bites while spending time outside on your patio or in the yard.

  • Standing water on the property

Neglected swimming pools and clogged landscape drains provide standing water where mosquitoes lay eggs.

  • Activity near fountains

Yard fountains, birdbaths and water features are common spots where mosquitoes breed.

  • Puddles in plant saucers

Leftover irrigation water sitting in pots provides a place for them to deposit their eggs.

  • Swarming around bushes

You may notice more mosquitoes when walking near thick shrubs, bushes, and dense plants in the yard.

Addressing yard mosquitoes

A quiet Las Vegas neighborhood street of stucco homes

Mosquitoes breed in standing water found in neglected pools, decorative fountains, plant saucers, buckets, and clogged drains. Identifying and removing standing water is a standard step during every visit.

The Southern Nevada Health District traps and tests local mosquitoes for West Nile virus each year. Mosquito service is separate from our quarterly plan, offering monthly yard treatments from April through October.

Reviewing your yard for breeding sites

The technician walks your entire property to identify where moisture collects. Finding these source areas is the most important step before we recommend a treatment plan.

  • Checking for trapped moisture

We examine buckets and toys left outside to see if they hold rainwater or irrigation runoff.

  • Looking at drainage areas

Our team inspects your clogged drains and gutters for pools that could support their life cycle.

  • Inspecting dense vegetation

Our technicians check shaded bushes, trees and plants where adult mosquitoes gather outdoors.

  • Evaluating water features

We inspect outdoor fountains, birdbaths and containers for standing water where mosquitoes breed.

Our methods for treating the exterior

We focus heavily on reducing the adult population and removing their breeding sources. You help by fixing leaks, and we handle the monthly applications.

  • Monthly yard treatments

We provide monthly yard treatments from April through October to target mosquitoes throughout the warm season.

  • Targeting shade and plants

Your technician applies treatments to shaded foliage and plant areas across your yard where adult mosquitoes gather.

  • Emptying standing water

Removing standing water is part of every visit we perform. We tip over saucers and buckets to physically destroy the places where they lay eggs.

  • Targeting standing water

Standing water sources that cannot be emptied are targeted during each monthly yard visit to address mosquito breeding.

Seasonal mosquitoes in desert yards

Even in a desert city, yards hold standing water in unmaintained pools, plant saucers, fountains, buckets, clogged drains, and landscape irrigation. These damp spots provide places where mosquitoes lay eggs during warm months.

Our monthly service focuses on finding these hidden water sources and treating shaded plants where adult mosquitoes rest during the day.

Guidelines for your upcoming service

We provide preparation guidelines before arrival. Following these steps helps prepare your yard for monthly service.

  1. Preparing the landscape

You receive written preparation instructions prior to treatment. We ask that you clear away clutter and yard debris so we can access the foliage.

  2. Unlocking side gates

We require full access to your front and back yards to properly locate all the shaded resting spots and hidden water sources.

  3. Children and pets during service

You keep children and pets out of treated yard areas according to your written reentry instructions.

  4. Waiting before going outside

Your written reentry document explains when family members and pets can resume using the yard.

  5. Monthly ongoing visits

Our seasonal service includes a monthly visit from April through October, and the technician removes standing water during every visit.

Steps to minimize breeding grounds

These habits help reduce the moisture they need to reproduce, but prevention alone does not end an active problem.

  • Empty water out of buckets, toys and tires after it rains.
  • Fix leaking hose bibbs or irrigation lines in your yard.
  • Maintain your swimming pool chemistry so the water does not become neglected.
  • Keep your gutters clean so rainwater drains properly off the roof.
  • Dump the excess water out of your potted plant saucers every week.
  • Run outdoor fountains regularly to keep the water moving constantly.

Questions regarding mosquito treatments

How do you treat my yard for mosquitoes?

We target shaded foliage, landscape plants, and standing water in your yard. Removing standing water from containers such as buckets and plant saucers is included on every monthly visit.

What about children and pets playing outside?

Products are applied according to label directions. You receive written preparation and reentry instructions, and you keep children and pets out of the yard until those instructions allow reentry.

Do I need to prepare before you spray?

We provide written preparation guidelines before your service date. Removing items from lawn areas and unlocking side gates allows our technician access to all yard plants and foliage.

How much does this service cost?

The price varies depending on the size of your lot and the amount of vegetation we need to cover. The technician evaluates the property and provides a clear price. You see and approve this estimate before we apply any treatments to your landscaping.

Is this included in the quarterly plan?

Mosquito service is not included in our quarterly plan. We offer dedicated monthly visits from April through October, with pricing provided after your initial yard inspection.

Can I stop them from breeding myself?

Emptying water from plant saucers and fixing outdoor leaks removes breeding sites around your yard. However, removing standing water alone does not address adult mosquitoes already resting in plants and shrubs.
