Why scorpion inspections happen at night

Scorpions glow under ultraviolet light, making blacklight night visits the effective way to locate them around block walls and yards.

Technician holding ultraviolet blacklight inspecting block wall for scorpions at night in Las Vegas

A daytime walk around a home rarely reveals where scorpions are staying. Because scorpions glow under ultraviolet light, night inspections with a blacklight are an effective way to locate them around exterior block walls, gravel, and home foundations in the Las Vegas valley. Searching after dark allows our technicians to see where scorpions hide on your property before we recommend a treatment approach. We serve communities across the valley, including Henderson, Summerlin, North Las Vegas, and Spring Valley.

What the technician checks during a night inspection

Our scorpion service starts with a night inspection using ultraviolet lights on the first visit. The technician inspects the outside of your house to find where scorpions are coming from and the conditions supporting them. Because scorpions glow under ultraviolet light, the blacklight reveals them hiding in shadows, along property lines, and near the foundation. The technician identifies the species and locates the entry points they use to get inside. After the inspection, the technician explains what they found.

Common hiding spots in Las Vegas valley yards

Scorpions seek out specific landscape features and structural details. The Arizona bark scorpion climbs walls and ceilings and can squeeze through a gap about as thin as a credit card. Because of this climbing ability, they turn up in places ground-dwelling pests might miss. During the night inspection, the technician focuses on several areas around the home:

  • Hollow block walls dividing neighboring properties
  • Gravel and decorative landscape rocks
  • Woodpiles kept in the yard
  • Irrigation boxes and water meter covers
  • Weep screens along the base of stucco walls on slab homes

Treating and sealing the exterior

Once the technician locates the scorpions, you receive a recommendation and a price. You see and approve the price before any treatment begins. We provide an exterior treatment in the places where scorpions hide. We also offer exclusion work to physically block entry points. Whiptail installs door sweeps, weep screen guards, and sealing gaps around plumbing and wiring penetrations. If you choose our Scorpion Plan, you receive a blacklight night inspection at the start, followed by exterior visits every two months. The plan includes scorpion-focused treatment of block walls, gravel, and weep screens. It also includes everything in the Quarterly Home Pest Plan, covering ants, cockroaches, spiders, crickets, earwigs, silverfish, centipedes, pill bugs, and wasps’ nests within reach. If covered pests come back between scheduled visits, we come back and re-treat at no charge.

Steps you can take around your property

Customer responsibilities are a different part of the process from our work. Prevention helps limit the places scorpions can hide. You can help by keeping gravel and woodpiles away from the house and trimming plants away from walls. Fixing leaks and drips, keeping irrigation off the foundation, and keeping garages tidy also help. Sealing gaps and screens reduces entry points. Prevention alone does not end an active infestation, but it supports the treatment. Before your treatment day, you get written preparation and reentry instructions. Only the written reentry instructions decide reentry, and the customer, not the technician, keeps children and pets out of treated areas.

Planning your scorpion treatment

If you find scorpions indoors in a home with small children, call our office directly instead of using the website form. We fit urgent calls in when a technician is available. For all other situations, requests sent through the website are answered during business hours, usually the same business day. The office confirms the details and books a visit. Request pest control

You do not need to identify the pest yourself. We serve the entire Las Vegas valley. Call our office or submit a request to book an inspection.
