Drywood Termite Control

Drywood termites exist in Nevada but are less common in the Las Vegas valley than subterranean termites.

Recognizing drywood termites

Drywood termites infest sound, dry wood structures directly without needing contact with subterranean soil. Winged swarmers shed their wings after swarming during warm conditions.

An inspection confirms activity, as nobody can confirm termites from a photo or a single sign alone.

Where termite signs appear

  • Wood structures

If drywood termites are found, we refer the work to a fumigation company because Whiptail does not tent or fumigate.

  • Shed wings

Swarmers drop their wings near windows, door frames and exposed wooden framing.

  • Antenna differences

Termites have straight antennae and thick waists, unlike elbowed ant antennae.

How Whiptail evaluates drywood termites

Our technicians conduct visual inspections of accessible wooden structures. If drywood termites are found on your property, we refer you to a specialized fumigation company for treatment.

Drywood termite questions

How are drywood termites different from subterranean types?

Drywood termites live inside dry timber without maintaining soil contact. Subterranean termites require ground soil moisture and build mud tubes to travel above ground.

Can termites be identified from photos?

No, nobody can confirm termite species or active infestation status from a photograph or isolated sign alone; an on-site physical inspection is always required.

Does Whiptail offer home fumigation tents?

Whiptail does not perform tent fumigation. If structural tenting is necessary for drywood termites, we refer homeowners directly to a licensed fumigation company.

We needed a formal Wood Destroying Insect report to sell our house. Marco came out and inspected the slab and garage thoroughly. He sent the written report to our agent the next business day.

We heard scratching in the attic. Luis found where roof rats were getting in, sealed the entry points with steel mesh, and set traps. He came back to check the traps just like he promised.

We use the quarterly plan for ants and spiders. When we saw a few ants return near the kitchen in summer, they came back out and treated the area again at no charge.

Kim gave us a written checklist to prepare our bedrooms for bed bug treatment. She treated the furniture and baseboards, then returned about two weeks later to check for activity.
