The Bed Bug

Adult bed bugs are flat, oval, brown insects about the size of an apple seed. They swell and turn reddish brown after feeding.

How to recognize bed bugs in your home

Adult bed bugs are flat, oval, brown insects measuring three sixteenths to one quarter of an inch long, roughly the size of an apple seed. After feeding, their bodies swell and turn a reddish brown color.

These insects travel in luggage, clothing, and used furniture. Common signs include rust colored spots on mattress seams, shed skins, tiny eggs, and bites lined up on skin.

Where bed bugs hide and signs of activity

  • Mattress seams and frames

Bed bugs frequently hide along mattress seams, bed frames, box springs, and crevices in bedroom furniture.

  • Rust colored spots and skins

You might spot tiny reddish brown fecal spots on sheets, cast nymph skins, or pale eggs near sleeping areas.

  • Bites appearing in lines

People living in affected homes often notice small reddish bites clustered or running in a line on exposed skin.

How Whiptail conducts bed bug treatments

Our process begins with an inspection of mattresses, furniture, and baseboards. We perform conventional chemical treatments on targeted surfaces, followed by a scheduled follow-up visit roughly two weeks later and additional visits if activity continues. Customers complete a written prep checklist before service.

Questions about bed bug services

What do adult bed bugs look like?

Adult bed bugs are flat, oval, brown bugs about three sixteenths to one quarter of an inch long, similar to an apple seed. They swell and turn reddish brown after a blood meal.

Is a single treatment enough for bed bugs?

Bed bug removal is not accomplished in one visit. Treatment requires customer preparation following a written checklist, an initial conventional application to affected furniture and baseboards, a follow-up visit about two weeks later, and potential additional visits if activity persists.

What must I do before the technician arrives?

Before treatment day, you receive written preparation instructions outlining how to prepare your room and clothing. Following these checklist instructions is a required step for proper treatment execution.

We heard scratching in the attic. Luis found where roof rats were getting in, sealed the entry points with steel mesh, and set traps. He came back to check the traps just like he promised.
