Recognizing the American cockroach

American cockroaches are reddish brown and grow to about 2 inches long. They typically enter buildings through sewer connections, floor drains and exterior openings.

Where American cockroaches enter

  • Sewer drains and pipes

Insects travel upward from municipal sewer mains, plumbing lines and floor drains.

  • Utility gaps and weep screens

Roaches pass through foundation weep screens and unsealed utility pipe penetrations.

  • Sewers and drains

American cockroaches live in sewers and drains, traveling into residential structures through plumbing openings and floor drains.
